nxbase

One harmonized ESG & energy meta-database.

nxbase gathers sustainability, energy and impact data from heterogeneous sources โ€” EXIOBASE, ecoinvent, EMBER, ENTSO-E, IPCC โ€” and maps them onto a single, queryable grammar. One place to compare different nomenclatures without losing the source's detail.

What it offers

One grammar for all

The parent-child Rosetta Stone model reconciles different nomenclatures (NACE, CN, EXIOBASE, EBOPSโ€ฆ) onto a common nxbase standard, keeping every row unique.

Data-aware guided query

The builder only offers parameters and filters that actually have data behind them. No empty queries: pick, run, export as CSV or JSON.

Units & GWP built in

On-demand unit conversion (density, currencies, deflators) and greenhouse-gas aggregation with AR4/AR5/AR6 GWP factors, computed downstream without touching the source.

Role-based access

Open data visible to anyone, a public tier for registered users, personal tokens for scripts and notebooks. Every source carries its own licence.

The heart of nxbase

The sets: where nomenclatures talk to each other

The value of nxbase is not just the numbers, but the web of equivalences that makes them comparable. Each classification (EXIOBASE, ecoinvent, NACE, CN, EBOPS) is a complete namespace; parent-child links map every concept up to a canonical standard. The Harmonization Explorer makes that convergence visual and navigable.

  • Official backbones: NACE Rev. 2.1, CN 2026 (down to 8 digits), EBOPS 2010
  • Sources stay in their own language โ€” reconciliation flows through the hierarchy, not forced renames
  • Focus-based convergence map: source โ†’ NXB โ†’ official reference
  • Cross-set search and a full catalog with per-row lineage

A live slice โ€” solar electricity production, mapped from each source's own vocabulary up to the official reference. Click any card to follow a concept to a neighbouring one.

nxbase started as eNextGen’s internal tool to build, maintain and expose a relational database of ESG and energy data. Today it is the data backbone behind our analyses and projects: it powers dashboards, input-output models and compliance tools such as CBAManager.

The design is built to grow by extension, not redesign: a new family of data needs at most new parameters and new rows in existing sets โ€” never a rethink of the schema.
